Sydney FC chief Tony Pignata claims Liverpool have made a rival bid for Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero but remains hopeful of signing the forward.

The experienced frontman had appeared poised to join the Australian side last week but the deal appeared to stall, with his agent claiming he is also in talks with Greek side Olympiakos.
Pignata now says Liverpool, who failed to sign a new striker on transfer deadline day, are also vying for Del Piero's signature as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options.
However, As Iunderstands the 37-year-old is not on the Anfield club's radar.
Pignata is still optimistic of signing the former Italy international, who spent 19 years at Juventus ahead of his exit in May, but says a deal is yet to be done.
"Liverpool have come in ... and they're a big club, there's no denying that," Pignata told Fox Sports. "But I think the attraction of Australia might sway us."

An other move to Russia

Zenit St Petersburg have continued an extraordinary day in the transfer market after adding Belgium international Axel Witsel to the signing of Hulk.

The 23-year-old midfielder signed for Benfica from Standard Liege last summer in a €7 million (£5.5m) deal and quickly became a key player at the Portuguese club.
But it is believed that Benfica were unable to hold onto their prized asset after Zenit put together an offer which reportedly met the player's €40m (£31.7m) release clause.
The transfer comes as another heavy blow for Benfica coach Jorge Jesus, who lost Javi Garcia to Manchester City on the last day of the British summer transfer window.
Witsel will follow in the footsteps of Brazil international Hulk, who joined Zenit from Porto earlier on Monday in a reported €60m (£47.5) transfer.

Meireles move to Turkey

Raul Meireles has completed his move from Chelsea to Turkish giants Fenerbahce, the Premier League club have confirmed.

It was on Monday lunchtime Fenerbahce revealed discussions were taking place between the two sides regarding the midfielder and a deal has now been reached, with the Turkish transfer window open until Wednesday.
Meireles had this season made only one start in three Premier League games for Chelsea and was an unused substitute in the Super Cup defeat by Atletico Madrid.
A statement on Monday evening on Chelsea's official website read: "Raul Meireles has today joined Fenerbahce on a permanent transfer.

The move was completed before the close of the Turkish transfer window later this week."The arrivals of the likes of Eden Hazard and Oscar had been an indication European champions Chelsea were looking in a different, younger direction to Meireles.
And the 29-year-old has therefore left after just more than a year since he moved to Chelsea on the British summer transfer deadline day of 2011.
The Portuguese will be reunited with Dirk Kuyt at Fenerbahce having spent a year with the Dutchman at Liverpool.

Hulk is believed to be a long-time target of Chelsea but the Russian giants have ended speculation linking him with a Stamford Bridge move after confirming their swoop for the forward on their official website on Monday evening.
The club did not disclose the transfer fee but reports claim they have parted with €60m (£47.5m) to secure the frontman.
The 26-year-old made a huge impact at Porto after joining from Tokyo Verdy in 2008.
But the Brazil international had long been linked with a new challenge, with his agent admitting earlier in the summer that the "time was right" for the player to move on.
Last week, Porto president Pinto da Costa revealed he had turned down an offer worth €50m from Zenit for the powerful forward, but a deal has now been reached by the two clubs.
Hulk scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and played a crucial role in Porto's Europa League title-winning campaign in 2010-11.

Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra has finalised his move to Anzhi Makhachkala after signing a four-year contract with the Russian club.

Spanish champions Real had announced over the weekend that Diarra was set to join Anzhi on a season-long loan, but he has now completed a permanent switch.
The 27-year-old former Chelsea and Arsenal player's arrival at Anzhi sits alongside Nikita Burmistrov's signing after he joined from Amkar Perm.
Anzhi chief executive Ayvaz Kaziakhmedo told the club's official website: "The signings of these footballers totally correspond to the strategy of our club achieving top aims.
"We are confident that, together with Lassana and Nikita, the club will fight for the most prestigious titles."
The experienced midfielder joins a host of high-profile names, including Samuel Eto'o, Christopher Samba and Yuri Zhirkov, in the ranks of the ambitious Dagestan club.
Diarra spent three-and-a-half seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu after joining from Portsmouth in January 2009.
The France international had also been a summer transfer target for AC Milan, who opted to sign Nigel de Jong from Manchester City instead.
He was also linked with Spartak Moscow, while Real's capture of Michael Essien on loan from Chelsea created the opportunity for Diarra to move on.

No Reds return for Owen

Owen to join Stoke

 Michael Owen has arrived at Stoke City to hold final talks over a two-year contract at the Britannia Stadium.

Owen has spent the summer searching for a new club after being released by Manchester United and has attracted interest from several teams.
The 32-year-old admitted that he had been targeted by clubs on the continent, but has always been keen to remain in the Premier League.
He was linked with a move to former club Liverpool following Brendan Rodgers' failure to sign a replacement for Andy Carroll and Sunderland were also rumoured to be interested.
However, Stoke boss Tony Pulis has spent the past couple of months hoping to persuade Owen to head to the Potteries and now appears to have won his battle.
Owen is understood to be holding final discussions over a deal and he could be confirmed as a Stoke player by Wednesday.

Drogba and Owen to the reds

I am very sorry that I am writing Liverpool stories all of the time but there is a lot of news coming out today. According to the Independent Liverpool want Michael Owen on a free transfer but also what really susprised me that we want Didier Drogba on loan. I dont know how serious this it but there has been a crisis at his club in China due to different people owning it and the Chinesea league ends next week until to December so dont be susprised if we get him.
But I would like to see two strikers after we cant put the ball in the back of the net. Drogba and Owen are both experts on that. Also Heskey has been linked with a move back to Liverpool, yes the donkey so this will be intresting as Liverpool can have two great players and they can travel to Anfield on a donkey.
