Sunderland have made an enquiry over the availability of wantaway Fulham forward Clint Dempsey.

Dempsey has been left out of the Cottagers' first three games after informing Martin Jol he did not want to play for the club again.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for the United States international, with Fulham reporting the Reds to the FA about their attempts to sign the 29-year-old.
But the Cottagers could do business with a different Premier League rival after confirming that Sunderland have expressed an interest in the forward.
Dempsey netted 23 goals in 46 games last season and is believed to command a fee of around £8m.
Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill has already added some attacking threat to his squad with the signings of Steven Fletcher and Adam Johnson.
